Why are there black areas?

This can be caused by the natural oils in teak oxidising during the weathering process and can be removed with warm soapy water and vigorous scrubbing. Black areas can also appear if a treatment has been applied, this may have been caused by treating the furniture when it is damp or by layering the treatment locking in moisture. If the blackening has been caused by a treatment that has been applied, you will need to remove the treatment by cleaning the furniture with soapy water or using a one part teak cleaner.
