Before filling out the form below, please have a look at some common questions:
Why has my furniture changed colour?
Teak naturally weathers when it is exposed to the weather elements. You will notice the furniture starting to lighten and then eventually turning a silvery grey colour. This is something that we would expect to see and not a cause for concern.
Why are there cracks appearing on my furniture?
Teak is a natural material and sometimes fine cracks can appear in end grain components such as the arm of a chair. These cracks are something that we would expect as the furniture faces changes in the weather. The cracks will not affect the overall structure of the furniture.
Why is there a variation in the colour of the wood?
This is perfectly normal and will mellow when the furniture is exposed to the natural weather elements. The variation in colour can appear during the kiln drying process which is used to lower the moisture content reducing the incidents of small cracks appearing when the furniture is exposed to varying temperatures of the outside elements.
Why are there black areas?
This can be caused by the natural oils in teak oxidising during the weathering process and can be removed with warm soapy water and vigorous scrubbing. Black areas can also appear if a treatment has been applied, this may have been caused by treating the furniture when it is damp or by layering the treatment locking in moisture. If the blackening has been caused by a treatment that has been applied, you will need to remove the treatment by cleaning the furniture with soapy water or using a one part teak cleaner.
